Terms and Conditions when Purchasing Books and Journals

All orders and purchases made through this website are subject to the Terms and Conditions outlined below. These Terms and Conditions may change from time to time without prior notice, at the discretion of ANU Press.

1.0 General

1.1 The Australian National University (ANU) is bound by the Australian Federal legislation Privacy Act 1988 (Cwth). ANU will not disclose personal information received from you to third parties without your consent or as we are allowed to in accordance with the privacy legislation.

1.2 We collect your personal information for the purpose of enabling us to process your order and to return the purchases to you. We may also use your information to contact you with information about our services and products. If you have any privacy concerns or would like to verify information about you or orders you have made then please contact us at orders.press@anu.edu.au.

1.3 If you wish to have your personal information removed from our mailing list then please contact us at orders.press@anu.edu.au.

1.4 These Terms and Conditions do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer except as expressed by these Terms and Conditions. All orders made will be deemed to incorporate these Terms and Conditions, which will prevail over any other document or communication from you. By placing an order with us, you will be deemed as having read and accepted these Terms and Conditions.

1.5 Electronic Transmission – When your order is transmitted by electronic transmission, such transmission will have the legal significance of a duly executed order under these Terms and Conditions when received by ANU Press, unless cancelled by you.

1.6 When purchasing an ANU Press monograph or journal you will be placing your order through ANU Press and will be subject to the Press’s Terms and Conditions.

2.0 Pricing

2.1 Prices displayed on the ANU Press website are subject to change without notice. Prices for items on an order are fixed once your order has been accepted. Subsequent price changes either up or down will not be retroactively applied to accepted orders.

2.2 All prices are recommended prices only and are expressed in Australian currency unless otherwise specified.

2.3 Prices shown do not include post and handling charges. Post, packaging, handling and/or freight charges and taxes will be added to each order charge.

3.0 Orders

3.1 Though ANU Press will endeavour to supply orders placed on this website, order placement and receipt do not constitute an obligation on ANU Press to supply. ANU Press reserves the right to cancel any order without notice.

3.2 In the event that a credit card payment has been processed for a cancelled order, refunds will be processed in accordance with normal business practices.

3.3 Customers who wish to cancel any order must notify ANU Press by email by 9 am on the next business day following the date of order.

3.4 Titles that cannot be supplied immediately will be backordered unless the customer’s order specifies the contrary. Customers will be advised when the title is expected to be available.

4.0 Shipping

4.1 All deliveries are made in most cases within 14 business days (domestic) or 21 business days (international) from receipt of your order.

5.0 Overseas Orders

5.1 Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) is not payable on orders placed and to be delivered outside Australia, and will be deducted as you complete your order if applicable. All other customers within Australia will have GST applied to each order.

5.2 All invoices are charged in Australian Dollars. All payments are to be made in Australian Dollars unless prior arrangements have been made.

6.0 Payment

6.1 We accept Visa or MasterCard credit cards only for online orders. Credit cards are handled by ANU’s secure payment gateway at its financial institute.

6.2 For non-credit card payments please contact ANU Press at orders.press@anu.edu.au.

7.0 Refunds and Returns

7.1 Please choose carefully. We do not normally give refunds if you simply change your mind or make an incorrect selection.

7.2 Whenever possible, ANU Press will undertake to replace any goods damaged prior to delivery. Damaged or faulty goods will be replaced at the discretion of ANU Press. Where replacement of damaged or faulty goods is not possible a full refund will be issued for the value of the damaged goods. Damaged and faulty goods must be returned to ANU Press in accordance with instructions given at time of return permission being given.

7.3 Claims in respect to non-receipt must be made within 30 days of order date.

7.4 Whilst every care is taken to ensure the correct goods are despatched to you, oversights do occur. If an incorrect order is received by you, please immediately contact ANU Press for return instructions. Any returns will be at ANU Press expense, provided ANU Press nominated carrier is used. Claims must be made within 7 days of delivery.

8.0 Jurisdiction

8.1 These Terms and Conditions, and orders placed under them, are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory in Australia, and the parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Australian Capital Territory in Australia for resolution of all matters or disputes arising out of these Terms and Conditions.
