ANU has a subscription to Thomson Reuters' InCites, a tool for citation-based research evaluation. InCites allows users to analyse institutional productivity and benchmark output against peers. It includes a customized data set specifically for ANU as well the ability to compare against global benchmarks across a range of indicators.
The new version of InCites adds features and capabilities for research evaluation and benchmarking which include:
- Journal Citation Report (JCR) provides a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world's leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.
- Essential Science Indicators (ESI) offers a unique and comprehensive compilation of science performance statistics and science trends data based on Journal Article Publication Counts and Citation data from Thomson Scientific Database. ESI allows users to determine the influential individuals, institutions, papers, publications and countries in their field of study as well as emerging research areas that could impact their work.
- InCites Analytics provides access to multiple indicators and reports about people, peers and publications to understand the research activities at an organization that allow us to make informed decisions and support strategic initiatives. The Metric Tiles feature provides easily readable, stackable, configurable and flexible reporting. This also allows users to evaluate output, performance and trends at the individual, department, institution and global level.
How to access InCites
InCites is accessible to anyone on campus through IP authentication.
As for the Next Generation of InCites, users will need to log in using their existing Thomson Reuters account (Web of Science or InCites). New users need to register for InCites account by entering email address and password from ANU IP-Authenticated computers. Anyone that registered an email with a Thomson Reuters product, the connection with the email and the institution's IP is stored and used to provide access to InCites.
