Profile
Dr. Sato is Professor at the University of Tokyo. He graduated from Department of Chemistry, the University of Tokyo in 1996. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2001. He was appointed as Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo in 2000, and promoted to Lecturer in 2005. He was promoted to the Associate Professor in 2007. He received the CSJ Award for Young Chemists for 2006 from the Chemical Society of Japan, Young Investigator Award of The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry for 2007, and The Young Scientists' Prize, The Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Research Interests
Prof. Sato has developed fluorescent indicators to visualize molecular processes in living cells and revealed spatiotemporal dynamics of cellular signaling processes, such as protein interactions, protein phosphorylation reactions and second messenger molecules, including cyclic nucleotides, phospholipids, and reactive oxygen species. In addition to building new fluorescent indicators, he is now developing new technology to control molecular and cellular processes in freely moving animals upon light irradiation.
