# Courses / Programs

As a university-wide platform for international education, GlobE offers an array of educational programs for all UTokyo undergraduate and graduate students, both domestic and international, across all affiliations and majors. GlobE also welcomes students from all over the world through short-term inbound programs, featuring intensive courses taught entirely in English.

## Courses/Programs for UTokyo Students

### Global Liberal Arts Courses

[“Global Liberal Arts Courses” is a collective term for courses offered by GlobE. As a university-wide platform for international education, GlobE offers courses taught in English and other languages, in which domestic and international students engage in active learning on campus and online.

- Global Liberal Arts (GLA)
- Language-Global Liberal Arts (L-GLA)
- Global Leadership Courses (GLC)

These Global Liberal Arts Courses are open to all students from all faculties and graduate schools, as well as exchange students. Students those in the fourth semester of the Junior Division, those in the Senior Division, and graduate students (eligibility is subject to the regulations set by each graduate school) are eligible.

These courses are also part of the requirements for completing the "Go Global Gateway" (GGG) and the "Global Leadership Program" (GLP), educational programs designed for all UTokyo undergraduate students.

### Global Leadership Program (GLP)

“UTokyo Global Leadership Program (GLP)” provides opportunities to study with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds, both from Japan and abroad, on and off campus. Participants will develop effective communication skills by listening to a wide range of global voices and learning to express their ideas clearly. They will also cultivate leadership skills aimed at making a positive impact on society by addressing global challenges from multiple angles.

#### Global Leadership Program-I (GLP-I)

[GLP-I is a program conducted primarily in English. It is open to all undergraduate students and aims to cultivate leadership skills for active participation in international society, and ultimately to enhance global competence (the ability to live and work together with diverse people around the world). This is achieved through a variety of courses and international educational programs at the University of Tokyo, primarily offered by GlobE, including the Global Liberal Arts courses (GLA) and Global Leadership Courses (GLC).

#### Global Leadership Program-II (Trilingual Program) (GLP-II (TLP))

[GLP-II (TLP), which started in April 2025, will provide students with the opportunity to study another language in addition to Japanese and English and to explore contemporary issues in multiple languages. GLP-II (TLP) is open to all undergraduate students. It aims to cultivate advanced language skills and cultural understanding necessary for making a good contribution in the international society, and ultimately to enhance global competence (the ability to live and work together with diverse people around the world), through a variety of courses and international educational programs at the University of Tokyo, primarily offered by GlobE, including the Global Liberal Arts courses (GLA) and Language-Global Liberal Arts courses (L-GLA).

### Go Global Gateway (GGG)

[Go Global Gateway (GGG) is a program designed for all UTokyo undergraduate students to develop their “global competence” (the ability to live and work together with diverse people around the world). GGG awards certificates to students who fulfill requirements and submit a certification request.

## Programs primarily designed for International Students (Open to UTokyo Students)​

### UTokyo Global Unit Courses (UTokyo GUC)

UTokyo GUC is a short-term inbound program primarily designed for international students. Held every summer, the program features courses taught by current and former UTokyo faculty members, offering rigorous lectures and discussions conducted entirely in English. This provides students from around the globe with a unique opportunity to experience UTokyo’s academic excellence.\
Current UTokyo students are also encouraged to apply, allowing them to study alongside international peers and engage in a global learning environment on campus.

#### UTokyo Global Unit Courses: Summer Program

[In addition to specialized courses across various disciplines from humanities to STEM, the program offers online Japanese language courses tailored to different proficiency levels, available in both in-person and online formats.\
Specialized courses feature not only lectures but also interactive discussions, supplemented by unique learning opportunities outside the classroom such as lab tours, visits to other campuses, design workshops, and field trips. \
Furthermore, the program features social events like "Get Together" lunch gatherings, providing a platform for international participants to interact and build connections with UTokyo students.

[This new program offers a blend of academic learning on UTokyo’s main campuses and experiential learning at the university’s facilities outside of Tokyo. The curriculum centers on active learning, where students spend time together sharing challenges and engaging in deep, meaningful discussions.
