Knut Woltjen is an Associate Professor of CiRA, where he conducts research on human genome editing and cellular reprogramming. \ He is a graduate of the University of Alberta (B.Sc. in Molecular Genetics) and University of Calgary (Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). He is a MEXT Scholarship recipient and Alumnus of the Hakubi Center for Advanced Research, Kyoto University. During his graduate studies he developed a method for rapid gene targeting vector construction using bacteriophage-plasmid recombination, and as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto he created the world’s first footprint-free mouse and human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) using piggyBac transposons. With 25 years of experience in stem cell genome editing, Dr. Woltjen aims to understand how to engineer genome sequence to regulate genome function.\
