Woltjen Lab members attend the 66th McKusick Short Course on Human and Mammalian Genetics at Jackson Laboratory

The McKusick Short Course is one of the most prestigious training programs in biomedical research. Over two intense weeks, postdoctoral researchers Sayaka Kayumi and Gabriel Martínez-Gálvez attended lectures and workshops led by leaders in genomics and bioinformatics, including Dr. Francis Collins previous director of the NIH, Dr. Karen Miga from the Human Pangenome Research Consortium, and Nobel Prize laureate Dr. Gregg Semenza.

Sayaka presented her work on a genome-editing technique that utilizes natural microhomology for the precise creation of deletion variants in the human genome. Gabriel presented his work on achieving efficient and controllable repeat contractions at genomic tandem repeats. This was a great experience and we hope to be able to continue our partnership with Jackson Laboratory!
