| **Oct. 15, 1946** | Seoul National University was established, |
| **Mar. 1958** | The Departments of the Astrometeorology was founded in the College of Arts and Literature |
| **Mar. 1966** | The Master’s program was opened. |
| **Feb. 1975** | The Department of the Astrometeorology was divided into the Department of Astronomy and the Department of Meteorology in The College of Natural Sciences, separated from the College of Arts and Literature, |
| **Mar. 1975** | The Departments was located in Building 25 when the main campus was moved to Gwanak campus. |
| **Jun. 12, 1978** | Gwanak Astronomical Observatory (now called as SNU Optical Astronomical Observatory No. 1) was established. |
| **Mar. 1980** | The Ph.D.’s program was opened. |
| **Dec. 1990** | SNU Observatory (now called as SNU Optical Astronomical Observatory No.2) was established. |
| **Jun, 1991** | The Office was relocated to Building 18. |
| **Sep. 1999** | The Department of Astronomy was integrated to SEES (Global Earth and Environmental Science research group) |
| **Apr. 2002** | SRAO (now called as Radio Astronomy Observatory) came into operation. |
| **Sep. 2002** | The Office was moved to Building 25-1. |
| **May, 2006** | The Department was reorganized to the Department of Physics and Astronomy. |
| **Dec, 2008** | The Office was moved to Building 19. |
| **June 12, 2013** | Astronomy became an independent major in the the Department of Physics and Astronomy |
