Cycle Registration and Subsidised Lock Scheme

This is an initiative to reduce the number of bikes stolen on campus. A Gold-Standard D-Lock is on offer for a reduced price of £15 and is available to all staff and students. Please note, staff and students are only entitled to one lock each.

To qualify for a discounted lock, you need to register your bike on the University scheme by following the simple steps below:

1. Complete the Bike Registration Form https://forms.office.com/e/fCbkdw5ycj [opens in a new window] This needs to be done at least 24 hours before attending the cycle registration event. Please note, if you are unable to attend an event within 4 weeks, you will need to resubmit the form for administrative purposes.
2. If you require a bike lock, you can purchase one by visiting the UOM online store [opens in a new window] This also needs to be done at least 24 hours before attending the cycle registration event
3. Attend the cycle registration event, bringing your bike so we are able add security labels to the frame. Once the labels have been added, you will receive your lock.

Please note:

• Do not purchase a cycle lock unless you have completed the Bike Registration Form and are able to bring your bike to your chosen event.
• We will not post locks, they must be collected in person.
• If you have not completed the Bike Registration Form, or purchased your lock from the online store at least 24 hours prior to attending the event, or fail to bring your bike, we will not be able to register your bike or provide you with your lock.
• The lock can only be collected by the member of staff/student who purchased the lock and has attended a session with their cycle. You must attend a registration event within 3 months of purchasing your lock.

Upcoming Bike Registration Events DATES

We currently have the following dates scheduled:

• Wednesday 4 March 2026, 12.00-14.00 - Stopford Building Bike Racks (Oxford Road)
• Wednesday 11 March 2026, 13.00-15.00 - Fallowfield Campus (Location TBC)
• Thursday 12 March 2026, 12.00-13.00 - Main Library Bike Rack
• Wednesday 18 March 2026, 11.00-13.00 - Nancy Rothwell Bike Rack (facing Booth Street East)
• Monday 23 March 2026, 11.00-13.00 - Main Library Bike Rack
• There will be no other events until 13 April 2026 due to the Easter Break, should you want to register your bike after 23 March and before 13 April, please email Hannah Wilson to arrange an appointment.

Bike Registration Events LOCATION

The registration events will take place outside the Campus Support and Security Office unless otherwise stated above*, which is located on the side of the AMBS Building. Please note, you are unable to get to us via the Main Entrance of AMBS. We are located on the side of the building, on Booth Street West itself.

If you are travelling from the AMBS Main Entrance (opposite the hotel), turn right onto Booth Street West, walked passed the Service Entrance and we are a set of glass/black double doors before the stairwell.

If you are travelling from Oxford Road, turn onto Booth Street West and the Co-Op should be on your left. Walk passed the bus stop and second stairwell and our doors will be on your left.

What is the Cycle Registration Scheme?

A unique serial numbered anti-tamper label is added to the frame of your bike in a highly visible location. The owner/cycle details are recorded on a University database to enable Campus Support and Security officers to check bikes. The relevant information is also entered onto the BikeRegister database which is checked by the police when they come into possession of stolen/recovered property. There is normally a charge of £15 for this service, but registering your bike through waives this fee.
