Driving at work

The management of work-related driving must take into account the requirements of health and safety legislation and road traffic law.

The information in this toolkit will assist managers and applies to all staff who drive on University business, including those who use their own vehicles.

Driving licence information

Driving licences for those colleagues driving university vehicles should be checked annually by line managers.

If colleagues need to share their driving licence with their line manager, they can also get a code for them to use on the link below. Colleagues will need to provide a driving licence number, national insurance number and postcode. Driving licences can be viewed at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.

Colleagues should give the code and last 8 digits of their driving licence to their line manager who should go to https://www.gov.uk/check-driving-information. They have a limited time to view your licence information for penalty points, endorsements, full and provisional entitlements.
