Behind Manchester's Doors: April 2024
What?
This initiative provides selected groups of First Year students from The University of Manchester with the opportunity to visit the offices of a range organisations based in Manchester, representing different sectors (Finance; Business; Law; Charity/Not for Profit; Comms & Marketing).
We strongly encourage applications from our Widening Participation cohorts of students who face barriers to progression through limited access to networks and understanding of professional environments.
Where?
The visits will take place during w/c 22nd April 2024.
One group of around 8 - 12 students* will be chosen per sector through an application process. The group will visit two different organisations on one day, with a morning and afternoon visit.
*depending on capacity of host organisation
Why?
The aim of these visits will be to showcase the offices that organisations occupy, to meet with a representative/s of the organisation to provide insights into working there, to highlight relevant student and graduate opportunities (if appropriate) and possibly to participate in a practical activity (see below).
The purpose of these visits will be to build the confidence and connections of our students, enabling them to visualise working for these organisations and to make contacts.
We also deliver pre and post visit workshops to support them.
How?
To participate in Behind Manchester’s Doors, all we ask of host organisations is that they:

Meet with a group of max 12 students on a morning or afternoon during w/c 22nd April 2024

Provide a space within your Manchester office to host the meetings.

Identify relevant colleague/s to meet with the students, based on the brief above and arrange for them to be available at the agreed times on the agreed date.
*There is an option to offer and prepare a practical activity.
This is a great opportunity to meet with Manchester’s future talent, support the social mobility of our students and promote any relevant opportunities (placements, work experience, training schemes etc).
