Student Legal Services (SLS) is funded by the Services & Activities Fee (SAF). SLS can only assist currently enrolled UW-Seattle, UW-Tacoma, and UW-Bothell students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree-seeking) who have paid the SAF.

What does this mean for me?

If you would like to check whether you have paid the SAF for the current quarter, please visit your Tuition Statement. If you have any issues verifying this information, please contact Student Fiscal Services at sfshelp@uw.edu.

Not eligible for SLS are alumni, ACCESS students, students in the Extension Program or Experimental College, and faculty/staff taking classes on a tuition waiver. If you are a UW faculty or staff member, you may receive legal services through UW CareLink.

SLS seeks to assist as many students as possible as long as such assistance allows us to comply with our ethical responsibilities. SLS provides services on a first-come, first-served basis. SLS cannot represent a student when the opposing party is another UW-Seattle, UW-Tacoma, or UW-Bothell student, or when the opposing party is a University of Washington entity.  In some cases, SLS can provide a resource-based consultation. SLS cannot assist students who want advice for family members, friends, other persons, or student organizations; the legal matter must involve the student directly.
