Ph.D. student Er-Cheng Tang earns FOCS 2025 Machtey Award for Best Student Paper

In the award-winning paper, Tang developed the first quantum state obfuscation scheme for unitary quantum programs, which are the backbone of quantum computing, in the classical oracle model. He presented the research at the 66th IEEE Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science last December.

UW Graduate School

Ph.D. student Rijul Jain earns Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Jain will pursue a Master’s of Philosophy in English at Cambridge University to complement his Allen School research focused on designing computational tools for digital archival collections that better reflect the needs and values of the communities they serve.

DopFone app can accurately track fetal heart rate using a smartphone

A team led by UW researchers created a system that uses a phone’s existing speaker and microphone to accurately estimate fetal heart rate by mimicking Doppler ultrasound.
