Campus and community partners are integral to the success of ISS and international students. Reach out to us whenever you need clarification or an answer.

Who is an international student?

University departments and units may define the term “international student” differently. However, International Student Services specifically supports students on the F and J student visas.

F & J Students

F-1 and J-1 students are usually on an immigration record held by the University of Washington and are usually pursuing a degree or here for a short-term exchange. They can be assisted by International Student Services.

F & J students must follow specific immigration regulations related to enrollment and employment.

Other Students

Other non-citizen students may enrolled at the University of Washington. However, ISS does not maintain their immigration records. Our team cannot advise them on matters related to their immigration status, and they should consult an immigration attorney if needed.
