Tuition fees for undergraduate medicine in 2026-2027.

Changes to our degree

Tuition fees for Overseas/International students were restructured in 2017-2018. This happened due to the introduction of a fully-integrated six-year degree as well as an increase in National Health Service (NHS) teaching costs.

The new six-year degree includes the awards of:

NHS teaching costs

If you are an Overseas/International student studying at a Scottish medical school, you must make a contribution to the teaching costs of the NHS.

This is known as the ACT levy.  It has applied since 2016-2017, and the levy is subject to change.

The University of Edinburgh subsidises this charge. The tuition fees published below are inclusive of the ACT levy.

Annual tuition fee

The tuition fees published below only apply if you are entering one of these years of study in 2026-2027.

Rest of UK (RUK) full-time student fees*

Tuition fees for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (RUK) and for Republic of Ireland (RoI) and the Channel Island (CI) are charged the Rest of UK Rate of Fee.  For RUK, RoI and CI students commencing or continuing their studies in September 2026, the tuition fees will be:

This is in line with the maximum fee cap announced by the UK Government in November 2025. The UK Government has confirmed that after 2027-2028, the fee cap will continue to increase each year to reflect inflation. Your tuition fees will increase in line with the Government fee cap each year, and you should take this into consideration when budgeting.

We will confirm the level of future increases to you as soon as possible.
