Entry requirements for applicants with International Baccalaureate (IB) qualifications.

For many degrees, we require you to have studied specific subjects at Higher Level (HL).

You must obtain the award of Diploma at a specific overall grade and achieve specific grades in three HL subjects.

You should have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) our entry requirements, including required subjects, for the degree programme you have applied for.

For some degree programmes, we may be able to consider all applicants who meet the entry requirements. For highly selective degree programmes we may only be able to consider candidates who exceed the requirements, as these degree programmes attract many highly qualified applicants.

You can use our degree finder to find entry requirements.

## IB results

If you are made an offer from Edinburgh and decide to accept, either as your Firm or Insurance choice, you should make sure that we receive your IB results through UCAS when they are released.

Your school's IB Diploma programme coordinator will be able to help you do this. You can find instructions for IB centres on the release of IB Diploma results to UCAS on the IB website.

## IB Standard Level (SL) English

Unless we specify a higher level in the stated entry requirements, you must achieve at least grade 5 at Standard Level (SL) English for entry to all degrees. You can also meet this requirement by holding one of the English language qualifications accepted by the University.

## IB Mathematics pathways

Please check our degree finder to see which IB Mathematics pathways are accepted for the degree you are applying for.

### Standard Level (SL) Mathematics subject requirements

#### GCSE or SQA National 5 Mathematics subjects

When we ask for a Mathematics pathway at IB Standard Level, we can also accept relevant GCSE or SQA National 5 Mathematics subjects to meet the requirement, if you do not hold the subject at SL as part of your IB Diploma. This does not apply for programmes where SL Mathematics is accepted in place of AS Level or A Level Mathematics.

#### Standard or Extended Mathematics (IB Middle Years Programme)

We will also accept Standard or Extended Mathematics studied as part of the IB Middle Years Programme as meeting our SL Mathematics requirement for programmes in:

- the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
- the School of GeoSciences
- the School of Biological Sciences
- Biomedical Sciences

Standard or Extended Mathematics will not be accepted where SL Mathematics is accepted in place of AS Level or A Level Mathematics, or as meeting the SL Mathematics requirement for programmes in other areas.

Please check our degree finder for further information about mathematics subject requirements for the degree you are applying for.
