Events and Public Engagement

We organise regular events for the research community, including networking dinners and researcher lunches which focus on different areas of interest. Recent lunches have focused on spinouts, mentoring, mental health, and academic career progression.

As part of our Public Engagement with Research (PER) programme, we encourage researchers to get involved in science communication opportunities such as Science Festivals, Spotlight Engineering and Pint of Science, and provide training and support to researchers involved.

Career development and Training

Research staff are entitled to a minimum of 10 days per year for their professional development and training. The Department fully supports this commitment and actively encourages research staff to explore constructive and meaningful developmental opportunities.

The University has many options for additional training for members of research staff - see links below.

The University's Researcher Hub supports all researchers on fixed-term research or teaching contracts at Oxford.

The Researcher Hub plays a key coordinating role in Oxford’s efforts to meet our commitments to the national Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, signed by the University in April 2021.

The Women in Engineering (WiE) network was established in 2012 with the goal of fostering a supportive community for women engineers across various disciplines such as civil, mechanical, biomedical, electrical, and more. Their vision includes organizing engaging and inspiring events like the Lunch & Learn series and panel discussions on topics of importance such as leadership and promoting gender diversity in academia and industries.
