Biography

Dr Xiaosheng Chen is currently a PDRA in the Wind and Tidal Energy research group at University of Oxford, working with Prof. Richard Willden in wind and tidal energy since 2019. He has more than 15 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and have been leading and participating in renewable energy projects for more than 5 years. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China with BEng in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering in 2012. He then obtained an MSc degree with distinction in Advanced Mechanical Engineering in 2013 from University of Sussex.

He later moved to the National Centre for Combustion and Aerothermal Technology (former Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre) based at the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, Loughborough University to pursue a PhD degree. After graduating in 2018, hestarted a secondment job in the Combustion Aerothermal Methods Team at Rolls-Royce plc., helping the design of the next generation lean-burn jet engine combustor.

Research Interests

Dr. Xiaosheng Chen is an expert in fluid mechanics and heat transfer. His research interests lies in the development of high fidelity CFD modelling technologies, design, evaluation and optimisation on turbomachinery applications (i.e. jet engines, wind and tidal turbines). His current research focuses on tidal turbine hydrodynamics, hydro-elasticity and hydro-acoustics, and multi-scale turbulence modelling for wind and tidal turbine/farm wakes.
