The Internet of Things (IoT) describes physical objects that are embedded with sensors, and technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other type of network.

An object within the Internet of Things could be a heart monitor, an animal with a biochip transponder, a car with built-in sensors or any object that can be assigned an Internet Protocol address and can transfer data over a network.

Organisations across academia and industries use and research Internet of Things in order to operate more effectively, improve decision-making and develop new technologies.
