Faculty

\ Prof. Maurice Fallon (IEEE, Senior Member) is a Full Professor in Engineering Science and a Royal Society University Research Fellow. He leads the Dynamic Robot Systems Group. His research is focused on probabilistic methods for localization and mapping. He has also made research contributions to state estimation for legged robots and is interested in dynamic motion planning and control. Of particular concern is developing methods which are robust in the most challenging situations by leveraging sensor fusion.

Post Docs

\ Ethan Yifu Tao joined the ORI in 2020. Yifu’s research is focused on 3D reconstruction and its application in robotics. Specifically, he works on techniques to fuse both vision and lidar to get the best of both sensor modalities, and apply them in robotic navigation and inspection tasks. Before he joined ORI, he was an Engineering Science undergraduate also here in Oxford. His final year thesis, supervised by Prof. Philip Torr, is to build an “AI Tailor” system that predicts people’s body shape and body measurements directly from photos captured from a mobile phone.

\ Dongjiao He has been a post-doc in DRS since Spring 2026. She did her PhD in the MARS Lab in Hong Kong University working on lidar mapping and estimation theory. During her PhD, she contributed to several popular open source lidar odometry systems including Fast-LIO2, Point-LIO and Fast-LIVO2. She is working on the ScanLite project in collaboration with Prof. Stephen Mellon and Dr. Jack Tu at NDORMS.

PhD Students

\ Lanke Frank Tarimo Fu Frank joined the DRS in 2021. He holds a master’s degree in Robotics, Systems and Controls from ETH Zurich. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked on multi-sensor tracking and prediction for autonomous driving at Oxa. At DRS, his research tackles multi-sensor correspondence learning, calibration and active perception, using differentiable optimisation. In his spare time he enjoys tinkering at the intersection of cooking and robotics, and amateur photography.

\ Christina Kassab joined the Oxford Robotics Institute in October 2022 as a DPhil student at St. Edmund Hall. Before joining the programme, she received an MEng degree in Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London. Christina is passionate about building visual semantic mapping and navigation systems for robots embedded with vision-language models.

\ Jiahao Wang is a third year PhD student in ORI. He completed his MSc degree in Engineering Science in Oxford in 2023.

\ Haedam Oh joined the Oxford Robotics Institute in 2024 as a PhD student, focusing on semantic mapping and LiDAR localization. He previously earned his MEng in Engineering Science from Oxford, completing his degree in 2024. This 4YP project was part of our research into forest robotics as part of the DigiForest EU project.

\ Jin Jin has been a DPhil student at Oxford Robotics Institute since January 2025. He is also a Clarendon Scholar and it working on visual physical learning for robotic planning tasks. During his MSc in ETH Zurich he collaborated with Dr. Cesar Cadena and Dr. Marco Hutter on reinforcement learning for local navigation. I have also worked with Prof. Changhong Fu of Tongji University on visual tracking during his undergraduate studies.

\ Yuhao Zhang started his PhD in October 2025. His undergrad degree is from Manchester and his MSc from Cambridge. Yuhao is working on visual SLAM and reconstruction. He is heavily involved in running the Hilti x Trimble SLAM Challenge 2026.

\ Mengyuan Yin started her PhD in October 2025. Her undergrad degree is from Imperial College London and she has carried out research in ETH Zurich and A*STAR in Singapore. Mengyuan is working on object-level mapping and change detection.

\ Kevin Siqi Tan is started his RAINZ CDT PhD programme in October 2025. He has recently completed his MSc degree in New York University. Kevin is working on panoptic scene understanding. His main supervisor is Daniele De Martini.

MSc Students and Visitors

\ Xinyuan Zhang is working on building model reconstruction with goemetric foundation models. She is a visiting student from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

\ Timothee Mahamoodally is working on near range collision avoidance using time-of-flight sensors with ORI’s Soft Robotics Lab.

\ Jin Rhee is working on visual inertial odometry with geometric foundation models (e.g. MapAnything).

\ Helen Fan is working on multi-camera localisation
