## Prospective Students - Apply to Online Learning at Allard Law [Apply](#)

Students who have never taken an Online Learning at Allard Law course must first register as a Non Degree Studies student at UBC, then submit required documents to Online Learning at Allard Law.

### Step 1: Apply to UBC as a Non-Degree - Unclassified Student

Please complete an application through the BC Education Planner website, using [the instructions specified here](https://students.ubc.ca/enrolment/courses/non-degree-studies/non-degree-studies-unclassified#how-to-apply.) for Non-Degree Studies admission to UBC.

After completing your personal profile, please use the following information to ensure your application is passed along to our office’s processing area.

- Stage 1: Select Institution:
  - Pick the University of British Columbia
- Stage 2: Complete Application
  - Under Program Selection:
    - Select University or College Graduate
  - Under First Program Choice
    - Select UBC Vancouver for the campus
    - Pick the term to begin
    - Select “Unclassified (Bachelor’s degree completed)"
  - Under Additional Information
    - For University or College studies, select “Year 5 (undergraduate degree completed and do not wish to pursue a degree at UBC)”
    - For Additional Comments, type in: I am applying to take Online Law Classes.
- Stage 3: Review and Submit your application.

You will receive an automatic email from UBC with your 8-digit UBC student number in the next two to three days.  Please include that email in all communication with our office.

**Important - You must provide your documents in Step 2 to the Online Learning at Allard office directly.** We will send them to UBC's office of admissions once we have reviewed them.

### Step 2: Submit Required Documents

Once you've completed your UBC application in step one, please do the following

**1. NCA Assessment Report and Academic Transcripts**

***If your file has been assessed by the NCA:***

Please ask the NCA to add your [NCA Assessment](https://nca.legal/process/application/), along with the academic transcripts on file with the NCA, to the NCA’s transcript portal.  The NCA will email our office once this is completed.

***If your file has not been assessed by the NCA:***

If your file is in queue with the NCA for assessment, please ask the NCA to send us an email saying that your file is currently in the queue to be assessed.

You will then need to provide us with official transcripts from your post secondary institutions, including your qualifying law degree for admission to the university from the issuing institution.

**Taking our courses without an NCA Assessment Report means you*****may*****be taking classes you don’t need or won’t get credit for.  As each individual NCA Assessment differs, it is your responsibility to confirm with the NCA whether they will accept the classes as meeting your NCA requirements. Please also be mindful of the course drop dates and the respective tuition refund dates.**

**2. English Language Requirements**

English language proficiency test results are required for all applicants who have completed a degree program (equivalent to a bachelors or higher) from an institution where English was **not** the primary language of instruction in the **entire institution** – not just the degree program. Please visit our [Eligibility page](https://allard.ubc.ca/programs/online-learning/admissions-requirements) for our English Language Proficiency test score requirements.

If you have a valid TOEFL (iBT) or IELTS (Academic) score (tests taken within the last 24 months):

1. For TOEFL (iBT): please email us ([distancelearning@allard.ubc.ca](mailto:distancelearning@allard.ubc.ca)) your appointment number.
2. For IELTS (Academic): please email us ([distancelearning@allard.ubc.ca](mailto:distancelearning@allard.ubc.ca)) your Test Report Form (TRF) number.

### Step 3: Wait for Program Assessment

Once all of the above steps are complete and all supporting documents have been received by the Online Learning at Allard Law staff, an assessment can be made to determine your eligibility for admission to take the courses we offer. If your application is successful, Online Learning at Allard Law will recommend you for admission to UBC through either Unclassified or Access Studies.
