Finding professionals who can seamlessly integrate technical skills with business insights is a significant challenge for many employers.

Organizations often struggle to find employees with the specific skills needed to drive change. Their technical professionals do not have the business knowledge or soft skills needed to contribute to strategic decision-making or project management, and their business professionals do not have the technical and domain knowledge to lead teams and deliver results.

That’s where the Master of Engineering Leadership comes in.

The UBC MEL is an interdisciplinary master’s degree that equips experienced professionals with the latest technical knowledge, foundational business knowledge and leadership skills.

Our graduates are in high demand from private and public sector organizations who understand the value of forward-thinking employees who can lead interdisciplinary teams, bridge communication gaps and direct complex projects that require both sector-specific industry knowledge and business acumen.

Discover our sector-specific programs

We offer sector-specific programs that bring an interdisciplinary focus to key industries. Industry-focused courses make up just under half of the curriculum with the other half focusing on graduate-level business courses taught through UBC Sauder's Robert H. Lee Graduate School.

Recruitment process

Our program starts in January and ends in December, with most recruitment initiatives for current students taking place in the fall term. Reach out to our team to talk about your specific needs and we’ll customize a solution for you. You can also easily share a job posting with us that we will circulate to current students and recent alumni.

“When we see the MEL on a resume it stands out, and we will often interview these individuals even if we don’t have a role available to them at the moment,” says Aadit Sidhu, Solaris’s Organizational Development Generalist. “With their technical experience, formal leadership training and knowledge about our industry, they bring a strong level of drive into our organization.”
