Margo Tamez (PhD – Washington State University, American Studies, specialization in lower Rio Grande river Indigenous women’s history), is Nde’ Dene of Kónitsąąíígokíyaa, and enrolled with the Lipan Apache Band, Texas. She is an associate professor in the Indigenous Studies program at UBC, Okanagan campus. Additionally, Margo holds a Master’s of Fine Arts in Poetry from the Creative Writing program at Arizona State University, and is the author of award-winning books.

With fourteen years’ experience as a Board Co-Chair and Board Advisor, respectively, of two influential Indigenous rights organizations – the Lipan Apache Women Defense (Texas) and Indigenous Alliance Beyond Borders/Alianza Indígena Sin Fronteras (Arizona), Margo’s contributions align Indigenous advocacy with community-centered values, experiences and historical perspectives. Margo has an extensive track record of international, legal partnerships with esteemed human rights experts, Ariel Dulitzky – at the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination, and Denise Gilman – at the Inter-American Commission/Organization of American States. As an Indigenous historian, poet, and legal scholar, she brings to the Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence Task Force significant experience accompanying Indigenous plaintiffs in anti-racism, anti-discrimination, anti-oppression, and anti-misogyny processes.
