C.D. Howe Scholarship Endowment Fund National Engineering Scholarship
Are you anticipating finishing first year with a first class standing? If so, you could be eligible for this scholarship.
The C.D. Howe scholarship is open to Canadian engineering students entering second year of their bachelor of engineering degree program.
Amount: $7,500 per academic year until a first degree is obtained

Eligibility and How to Apply
Eligibility requirements:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
- Have completed the first-year program in a Canadian faculty of engineering and intend to continue their studies in engineering;
- Be entering the second year or the fourth study term (if enrolled in a co-op program) of the bachelor of engineering program in September 2025 (First Bachelor);
- Be nominated by an eligible institution. UBC is an eligible institution;
- Students must have attained a first class standing as defined by UBC (80% average or better);
How to apply:
- Both an academic and extracurricular reference form from someone not related to you.

Claudette McKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship
The Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship is an external award. This is a Canada-wide annual award of $25,000 to support women in their second or third year of undergraduate engineering studies in Canada.
Created thanks to a generous donation from the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation (CEMF) and in tribute to the memory of CEMF founder Claudette MacKay-Lassonde, this scholarship embodies the values of leadership, academic excellence and community engagement espoused by the CEMF for more than 30 years.
By providing financial support to exceptional female students, this initiative is helping to inspire the next generation of women engineers and encourage the aspirations of exceptional, committed young women.
The Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship will be awarded every year in August during the Folie Technique summer camp, which is designed to give young people opportunities to explore the worlds of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through creative, interactive and accessible activities.

Candidates for the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

Order of the White Rose
The Order of the White Rose scholarship is open to women engineering graduates planning to pursue an MASc or PhD in engineering. For more information, visit: EDI.I Awards

Premier Undergraduate Scholarships and Wesbrook Scholars Award
The Premier Undergraduate Scholarships and Wesbrook Scholars are the University's most prestigious designations, given to senior students with outstanding academic performance, leadership, and involvement in student and community activities. Eligible students will be emailed with an invitation to attend an information session in September.
Amount:$1,000 each to renewable scholarships worth $20,000 over two years.

Jeanie Malone (2025)
Dr. Jeanie Malone is a postdoctoral fellow at the BC Cancer Research Institute, specializing in the development and translation of optical imaging technologies for early cancer detection and management. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and a BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. During her doctoral studies, she investigated the application of these technologies in tubo-ovarian, cervical, oral, and lung cancers, as well as lung transplantation. Dr. Malone is currently leading imaging studies using endoscopic optical coherence tomography in the operating room to detect cancers in the fallopian tubes - the first step towards developing screening tools for early ovarian cancer detection.
Seyyed Alireza Hashemi (2024)
Seyyed Alireza Hashemi is a third year PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering at UBC-O under the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Arjmand. His research focuses on developing engineerable aerogels via interfacial complexation for electromagnetic shielding and piezoresistive sensors. He is expected to graduate in late 2025.
Dean’s Graduate Extra-Curricular Contributions Award
The purpose of Dean’s Graduate Extra-Curricular Contributions Award is to recognize a student who has demonstrated leadership, innovation, personal initiative and service to UBC community through active participation in extra-curricular activities.

Robyn Adams (2025)
Robyn Adams is a Red River Métis/Ukrainian dual Master of Architecture and Landscape Architecture graduate student in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA). Throughout her 4-year degree, she founded and leads the Indigenous Landscape + Architecture Network of Design Students (ILANDS) student group 2022-‘25, volunteers with the UBC American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), xʷc̓ic̓əsəm Garden at UBC Farm, and was a member of the SALA EDI committee from 2021-23. While at UBC she was a research fellow with the Canadian Centre for Architecture researching shoreline erosion, and a BIDC Black Indigenous Design Collective Public Art Intensive Participant.
Hammad Ahmad (2024)
Hammad Ahmad is a PhD candidate at School of Engineering, UBC-O. In his leadership journey, Hammad has worked as President of Engineering Graduate Students Society (EGSS), Graduate Students Community Facilitator, President SUO Tennis Club, member of Graduate Students Advisory Council (GSAC), Graduate Students Committee (GSC-SUO) and have volunteered at platforms including UBC Graduation, new students orientation, 3MT Western Regional and many others.
Dean’s Graduate Award for Knowledge Translation & Entrepreneurship
The purpose of Dean’s Graduate Award for Knowledge Translation & Entrepreneurship is to recognize a graduate student who has successfully conveyed research results through presentations, development of materials or venture creation with the intention of producing a ground breaking product with a developed or developing business plan to bring it to market.

Rohith Jayaraman Krishnamurthy (2025)
Rohith JK is a PhD researcher at UBC specializing in sustainable materials and circular economy solutions. He is the co-founder of Vantech Medical, developing AI-driven healthcare innovations like the Sudae companion robot. Passionate about social impact, he also runs an NGO supporting education in rural India.
Cole Christianson (2024)
I am a PhD student in mechanical engineering at UBC-O. I am studying the prevention of airborne disease spread. Additionally, I am creating a medical device company that is creating new technologies for respiratory disease treatments.
Iman Jalilvand (2024)
Iman Jalilvand is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at UBC, specializing in AI, XR development, and UI/UX design. His research focuses on integrating VR/MR models and AI (particularly reinforcement learning) to optimize advanced manufacturing processes. Iman has developed innovative immersive applications for workforce training and contributed to projects that enhance manufacturing efficiency and user experience by leveraging AI and immersive technologies. He is expected to graduate in December 2024.
Dean’s Graduate Leadership Award
The purpose of Dean’s Graduate Leadership Award is to recognize an outstanding student who takes an active role in institutional governance, service delivery, community service work in one or more areas with the primary aim of making significant contributions to the graduate student culture and environment.

Danilo Caron (2025)
Danilo is a PhD candidate in civil engineering looking at ways to incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing and being in engineering design and delivery. He is a member of the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation in Ontario and has family ties to Castelfranco Veneto, Italy. Danilo is committed to advancing reconciliation and Indigenous resurgence through infrastructure and development.
Kuthan Celebi (2024)
Kuthan Celebi (UBC BASc. ’22) is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Materials Engineering, who is expected to graduate in fall of 2026. Kuthan has helped rebuild the MTRL Graduate Student Association and organize social events in the department after a period of inactivity since COVID lockdowns. Aside from his Ph.D work on analyzing mechanical properties of composite materials using machine learning, Kuthan also volunteers as a mentorship program coordinator for CACSMA (Canadian Association for Composite Structures and Materials), and as the treasurer of the Wing Chun Kung Fu Club at UBC.
Dean’s Graduate Thesis Award
The purpose of Dean’s Graduate Thesis Award is to recognize an outstanding piece of original scholarly writing that demonstrates thorough research excellence, fosters research understanding through communications and contributes to significant advancements in Nominee' field of study.

Award Recipient(s)
David Black (2025)
David Black is a researcher in medical robotics and imaging, working on topics from surgical robotics to fluorescence-guided neurosurgery. During his PhD, he developed a system to perform tele-ultrasound exams on patients in remote communities through hand-over-hand guidance, using a combination of mixed reality, high-speed communication, and control theory. David continues his work as a postdoctoral fellow at UBC and the University of Münster and has more projects brewing, motivated by the desire to improve the quality of and access to medical imaging.
UBC Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award
In recognition of the valuable role that Graduate Teaching Assistants play in our programs, UBC annually awards nineteen Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards. Each award includes a Certificate and $1,000.00. These awards are intended to recognize teaching excellence within our institution and to underscore the importance and value that UBC places on high-quality teaching.\ Award amount: $1,000.00 and a certificate.

Eligibility and How to Apply
Eligibility requirements:
- The award is open to any Graduate Teaching Assistant at UBC Vancouver who has been acting in the position during the current academic year (2025-26) and/or the preceding academic year (2024-25).
How to apply:
- The person nominating the TA, or the self-nominee, must compile a dossier of information about the nominee’s work as a TA. A single PDF document is recommended. For more information on the required documents, please refer to Appendix I and II in the Call for Nomination Document.
- The dossier must be forwarded to the Head’s or Director’s Office by the deadline of February 28, 2025.
- Nominations are encouraged from faculty supervisors (professors, senior laboratory instructors) of the Graduate Teaching Assistant nominee, from colleagues working closely with the nominee, and from the students who attended the nominee’s class or laboratory. TAs can also self-nominate for the award.

Governor General’s Gold Medal
One gold medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record as a doctoral student. A second gold medal is awarded to the graduate student who has achieved most outstanding academic record as a Master’s student completing a thesis. This is an opportunity to honour the best in the graduating class within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, as there is only one award for more than 2,000 Master’s graduates and one award for more than 500 doctoral graduates. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General of Canada by participating educational institutions, along with a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General. There is no monetary award associated with the medals.

- The Governor General’s Gold Medal competition is open to nominations from all graduate programs at UBC via their Faculty Dean’s Office.
