[### Better prepared for vacuum-assisted deliveries in low- and middle-income countries with a new training model
In many low- and middle-income countries, the number of C-sections is strikingly high. One reason is that physicians often feel insufficiently trained to safely perform vacuum-assisted deliveries. Existing training models are expensive and not anatomically accurate. [### Mapping sounds of the city with help of citizens and AI sensors
‘Noise pollution can cause serious health problems, even heart attacks. That’s all the more reason to map the soundscape of cities more accurately,’ says researcher Lion Cassens. Together with residents in Delft, he studied the sounds present in the city. [### 9 paths to find your way in 2035
The world is becoming busier, more complex, and increasingly digital. This is changing how we find our way in complex environments, such as museums. [### Stress reducing hospital light
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospitals can be an overwhelming experience for patients, with many stimuli. This may cause stress, reduced sleep, and disorientation. A smart combination of light and sound can mitigate these effects. [### Alessandra Galli wins James Dyson Award with smart keyboard design for Parkinson’s patients
IDE graduate Alessandra Galli has won the international James Dyson Award 2025 and €35,000 for her graduation project, OnCue. OnCue is a smart keyboard designed to help people with Parkinson’s type more easily and accurately. “This award proves that it was the right choice to continue with this project after graduating. Unaccompanied minor asylum seekers who arrive in the Netherlands are housed in a shelter for minors. But when they turn 18, they must move to the regular asylum shelter for adults and families. A tough transition, full of stress and uncertainty. With her graduation project, Mirjam de Korte wanted to address this. As the demand for renewable energy continues to grow, wind turbines are becoming larger and are being installed further offshore. This shift brings new technical challenges. How do you install such enormous structures when the water is too deep to anchor the installation vessel efficiently? [### ‘Stoptober’ helps vocational students resist unhealthy snacks
To motivate vocational (MBO) students to change their snacking habits and opt for healthier choices, Mayra Cöp designed a campaign called ‘Stoptober’. “It’s a campaign month with various tools and materials in and around schools, in cafeterias, teaching materials, and a Snapchat filter.
