Visa & Residence Permit

If you are a non‑EU/EFTA national who plans to enrol at TU Delft, you may need an MVV (entry visa) and/or a residence permit for study in order to study in the Netherlands. TU Delft will apply for the MVV Visa and/or Residence Permit for Study on your behalf at the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Services); it is not possible to apply for this yourself.

Please make sure you read the information below on what is expected of you during each stage of the MVV Visa and/or Residence permit application, and afterwards during your residence in the Netherlands.

Have you studied in the Netherlands before? : If you are a prospective student with a non-EU/EEA nationality who has previously studied in the Netherlands, different procedures and deadlines may apply. Please follow the relevant situational instructions hereafter.

Please note that enrolment with a residence permit for study is only an option in September or in some cases, February.

**You have studied in the Netherlands but have not yet obtained a Dutch degree:**

1. If you previously studied at another Dutch educational institution but did not obtain a degree, your residence permit and/or MVV application will follow the regular application and admission process.
2. If you have previously studied at TU Delft and intend to return after a gap period; please refer [here](https://www.tudelft.nl/en/student/my-study-me/rules-guidelines-and-participation/residence-permit-for-study/gap-period) for details relevant to your situation.

**You have studied in the Netherlands and have obtained a Dutch degree:**

3. Whether TU Delft needs to take over sponsorship from your previous university (including an extension), or you need to change or apply for a new residence permit for study (and possibly an MVV Visa), please follow these steps:
   1. Please [enroll](https://www.tudelft.nl/en/education/admission-and-application/msc-dutch-bachelors-degree) via Studielink.
   2. Consequently, please email [contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl](mailto:contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl) as soon as possible to inform us that you require a Residence Permit for Study.
   3. You will receive an invitation to submit your confirmation statement.
   4. After submitting your confirmation statement, you will receive your financial letter.
      - the due amount for tuition fees\*
      - the IND application fee
      - a deposit for living costs
   5. After receiving your full payment, we will process your documents.

The following deadlines apply:

If you don’t meet these deadlines, timely processing of your IND application can no longer be guaranteed. A valid residence permit is required to finalise your enrolment at TU Delft.

*\* Please note that for your first year at TU Delft, it is not possible to pay your tuition fees through direct debit (digital authorization), as we are legally required to verify your financial solvency, you need to transfer the entire amount stated in your financial letter. Please await your financial letter before transferring the payment, so we can process it correctly.*
