Terahertz Sensing

Overview

The Terahertz Sensing group focuses on research and education in the fields of applied electromagnetics, antennas, optics and sensor systems for space. \ \ List of M.Sc. Thesis Projects offered by the TS group (2026-2027)

The group embraces the following subgroups, each related to a research theme:

[### Quasi-Optical Systems

Lens arrays, leaky wave antennas, integrated lens antennas, reflector systems](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=47) [### Experimental Astronomy

Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors, instrumentation and detector development](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=48) [### Applied Electromagnetics

Wideband and non-dispersive antennas, electromagnetic band-gap structures, and Terahertz integrated antennas.](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=49) [### Phased Arrays

Analysis and design of state-of-the-art wideband, wide-scanning phased arrays, from microwave to terahertz frequencies](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=59) [### CosmoNanoscience

Submillimeter Astronomy with Superconductivity and Nanotechnology](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=60) [### Computational Imaging and Inversion

Development of effective imaging and inversion methodologies and algorithms](https://terahertz.tudelft.nl/Research/theme.php?id=71)

Top level education and top level research condition each other. The TS group participates in the Electrical Engineering BSc curriculum and two MSc tracks: MSc Wireless Communication and Sensing, MSc Microelectronics.

[#### The power of perseverance in science: technology opens a new window on the universe

Thanks to a detector developed in Leiden and Delft, previously hidden regions of the universe are now becoming visible. That detector was made possible only by a bold investment in exploratory research almost 20 years ago. ‘You’re essentially buying a gap in time that allows you to focus on the long term.’
