Professor Safiya Noble Receives an Honorary Doctorate:

Professor Safiya Noble, will be the recipient of an honorary doctorate at Leiden University, the Netherlands, granted by its Faculty of Social Sciences. This award becomes another kudo for Professor Noble, a MacArthur Fellow, recognized for her award-winning book, Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism (NYU Press)” and a recent co-authored article, “Toward a Sociology of Artificial Intelligence: A Call for Research on Inequalities and Structural Change.” The Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS) is very much looking forward to hosting you. The honorary doctorates at Leiden University are awarded on the 9th of February 2026 during a large ceremony at the dies natalis or birthday of Leiden University
