Biography

The recipient of numerous honors, including the Scholars of Color Distinguished Career Contribution Award from the American Educational Research Association in 2016, Dr. Allen came to UCLA in 1988 as a Professor of Sociology. He is the Allan Murray Cartter Professor of Higher Education at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) and has spearheaded several research initiatives, including the Educational Diversity Project and the Choices Project. Dr. Allen additionally serves as the director of UCLA’s Capacity Building Center, where research is put to action through activism.
