Program Description

Products of computer engineering touch nearly every part of our lives. They let us chat via webcams, send e-mails from cell phones, and withdraw cash from ATMs. But computer-based devices and information networks aren’t the only products computer engineers develop; they reconstruct genomes, design robots, and develop software to make businesses more efficient. That’s just the kind of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship that the School of Engineering encourages.

Applying for the Minor

Apply for a minor in Albert using the link in the My Academics section of the Student Center.

Students should apply for the minor before applying for graduation. After applying for the minor, the application is then forwarded to the Home School Advising Office, Host School Advising Office, Host School Department/Program, and the Academic Dean’s office.

The departmental advisers governing the minor will have access to approve or disapprove the minor online using the Graduation Tracking Search page. If a student is registered for a course for the minor during their last semester, the adviser can still set the status to departmental approved pending current courses.

Program Requirements

Students may obtain a minor in Computer Engineering by taking the following courses:

CS-UY 2124 Object Oriented Programming 1 4
or ECE-UY 3114 Fundamentals of Electronics I
Total Credits 16

1 : Whichever is not required for the student’s primary degree program.

Note: For students not earning the BS degree in computer science, ECE-UY 4144 Introduction to Embedded Systems Design may be replaced by CS-UY 2214 Computer Architecture and Organization. Students should be aware of the prerequisites for the courses for the minor. A GPA of 2.0 or better in the entire minor is required. Students must take a minimum of 8 credits at the School of Engineering. The minor in computer engineering is not open to students earning the BS degree in electrical engineering.
