Revised undergraduate curriculum with more intense clinical focus

Source: https://nursing.nyu.edu/academics/undergraduate/new-un-curriculum Parent: https://nursing.nyu.edu/

NYU Meyers has updated our undergraduate programs to provide more wide-ranging patient care experiences that will position students to meet the highest standards of the profession and the evolving challenges of global health care.

These changes also will enhance students’ ability to meet licensing requirements, while remaining true to the core of the Meyers educational experience: a student-centered, holistic education that embraces innovation and the most advanced medical technology, focuses on leadership development and is deeply committed to cultural competency, community health and a collaborative, evidence-based approach to patient-care.

The updated program will impact our traditional and 15-month accelerated programs, depending on where you are in your studies. As part of the revised program, we will also make some minor changes to the academic calendar.

How the revised undergraduate curriculum will affect you:

All students will be following the revised curriculum by the Summer 2026 term. This includes any third- or fourth-sequence students who do not complete the current/legacy curriculum before Summer 2026, who will finish their remaining requirements under the updated curriculum.

Visit our undergraduate program pages for additional information about the revised curriculum and programs of study.

Why are changes being made to the curriculum? : We want to give our students as much hands-on clinical training as possible. Healthcare delivery is changing, and to keep pace with these industry changes, nursing schools are moving towards a competency-based education model that focuses on mastering essential skills and applying that knowledge in real-world clinical settings. Our goal is to provide students with hands-on experiences that develop their critical thinking, confidence, and leadership in patient care.

Will these changes affect my graduation date? : We anticipate that traditional students will complete their studies in four years and accelerated students in 15 months.

Does this mean our semester will get longer? : This change will add just one week to each academic term.

How will this change affect me? : Students who've already begun their nursing clinical sequence as of Spring 2025 will continue to follow the current/legacy curriculum. Newly admitted and continuing students starting their nursing clinical sequence in Fall 2025 will follow the revised curriculum. By Summer 2026, all students will be on the revised curriculum and schedule.
