NYU Prototyping Fund
The NYU Prototyping Fund is a collaborative program offered by the Design Lab @ NYU Tandon MakerSpace, the Technology Management and Innovation Department, and New York City Future Manufacturing Collective (NYC-FMC) that awards teams of students up to $500 in the first round of funding and up to $2,000 in the second to be used to build hardware or software prototypes, and connects them with the resources, tools, and mentors they need to bring their ideas to life. All applications are welcome, but we are prioritizing team applications first, specifically multi-disciplinary, multi-program, or multi-school teams.

Workshops & Showcase\ Upon acceptance to the Prototyping Fund you will be notified of the dates for two mandatory workshops.
At the end of the semester, you will present your work at the Prototyping Fund Showcase! Again, dates will be provided upon acceptance, and we look forward to supporting and celebrating your work!

MakerSpace Mini Grant
Do you have a project idea but need some funding? We can help bring your ideas to life! The monthly MakerSpace Mini Grant is an exciting way in which the NYU MakerSpace encourages student projects within New York University. Each month we award a grant of $50 to support a project being done in MakerSpace. The funding can be used to pay for MakerSpace services or you can submit a list of materials from trustworthy sites (such as Amazon, Sparkfun, etc.) and we will order them for you.
In return, you will be asked to write a blogpost at the end of the month describing your project, process, and the ways in which you used the NYU MakerSpace. Learn more about the services and trainings we offer here. The project doesn’t need to be fully completed within the month timeframe, but the blogpost should highlight the progress made during the thirty days.
**Mini Grant funds are purely for prototyping and experimenting, not for buying materials to make products you sell.**
Food Computer (now We are the New Farmers)\ A Fall 2016 Winner\ A controlled-environment agriculture technology platform that uses robotic systems to control and monitor climate, energy, and plant growth inside of a specialized growing chamber
Beespect\ A Spring 2019 Winner\ Sensor-enabled beehive lid for commercial beekeepers that aims to reduce colony losses over the winter season by reporting hive microenvironment data
Tactile Tiles\ April 2019 Winner\ Using existing tile patterns, we created a system to guides visually impaired people at the corner of the streets to the street pole where braille plates with street names on them will be located.
Calendula Face Cream\ September 2019 Winner\ Aims to incorporate the medicinal properties of Calendula with day to day skin care and apply the concepts of cosmetic engineering to make a face cream that uses natural and sustainable ingredients.
