The School of Global Public Health (GPH) and the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education & Human Development (Steinhardt) offers a 4+1 program that allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Steinhardt and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from GPH in less time than it would take to complete the two programs separately.

This accelerated program prepares students to assume leadership positions in public health nutrition settings that require a systematic approach to addressing issues. In January 2024, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics adopted a minimum requirement of a master’s degree for entry-level registered dietitians (RD). With the BS/MPH, students can earn their professional RD credential on an accelerated basis, streamlining a path to their career goals.

Up to 15 credits of GPH graduate coursework will be double counted towards the BS and the MPH. (Note: Students can complete more than 15 credits of graduate coursework during undergraduate years, if their schedules allow.)

Students will earn a total of 159 credits: 128 credits for the BS, plus an additional 31 credits for the MPH. (A reminder: if these degrees were completed separately, the GLS BA requires 128 credits and the MPH requires 46 credits, for a total of 174 credits taken over six years.)
