Program Description

The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering offers a minor in mechanical engineering for students in other majors.

Students should consult with their major academic adviser to understand how these courses may apply to the electives in their degree.

Applying for the Minor

Apply for a minor in Albert using the link in the My Academics section of the Student Center.

Students should apply for the minor before applying for graduation. After applying for the minor, the application is then forwarded to the Home School Advising Office, Host School Advising Office, Host School Department/Program, and the Academic Dean’s office.

The departmental advisers governing the minor will have access to approve or disapprove the minor online using the Graduation Tracking Search page. If a student is registered for a course for the minor during their last semester, the adviser can still set the status to departmental approved pending current courses.

Program Requirements

The Minor requires students to take a total of 15 credits in Mechanical Engineering courses. Nine of these credits are in three core courses (selected from a list of four courses), while another six credits can be any AE-UY, ME-UY, or ROB-UY courses which are level 3 or 4. If a student has taken an equivalent course in their own major (e.g., Statics in Civil Engineering), that course will not count toward the Minor. In such a case, if this course matched a core course selection the student may need to complete an approved substitute core course. The total number of completed courses must always be at least 15 credits.

A minimum of nine credits toward the minor must be taken at Tandon. As many as six credits may be applied from an approved Study Abroad experience.
