Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Source: https://publichealth.nyu.edu/academics/applied-practice/curricular-practical-training-cpt Parent: https://publichealth.nyu.edu

Any international student completing an internship, whether it is paid or unpaid, in the United States (in-person or remote), must apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT). The only exception is if you are completing an internship with New York University (any school) or NYU Langone, you do not need to apply for CPT.

Applications for CPT are managed by the Office of Global Services (OGS) and can be completed online here. Before completing an application, please read the information below and review this slide deck, as it is important to your application as a GPH student, as different schools have different procedures.

Please note, you may not work before the CPT start date or after the CPT end date listed on your I-20, and your CPT authorization cannot be modified or changed retroactively after your employment start date.

Important Information for your CPT Request

  1. For GPH to approve your CPT request, you must have an approved PLC. The only exception is for MS Biostatistics students, who do not need an approved PLC, but must submit an offer letter for the internship to gph.practice@nyu.edu.
  2. Dr. Blaney, Interim Dean of Public Health Practice, is the advisor for CPT. Under advisor, make sure to list her name and email (kjb9234@nyu.edu).

Eligibility Categories for CPT:

Full-time Versus Part-time CPT:

During the summer semester, students can complete full-time CPT. During academic semesters, students can only complete part-time CPT. If you are submitting a request during an academic semester, make sure to choose "part-time."

Dates are Important
