Finance shouldn’t be a barrier for you to be successful at UQ. There are many ways for you to get help if you need it.

## Scholarship opportunities

### Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education scholarships scheme

If you’re an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and have **experienced financial hardship** you can apply for any of the [scholarships in this](https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/scholarship/aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-education-scholarship-0) [scheme](https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/scholarship/aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-education-scholarship-0).

These scholarships are supported by UQ fundraising initiatives and gifts from donors.

Each of the application links will effectively apply for all of the education scholarships referenced, as well as the Commonwealth scholarships described below.

### UQ Indigenous Commonwealth scholarships

Applicants may be eligible for the [Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship](https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/scholarship/uq-indigenous-commonwealth-scholarships-uq-ics) **and/or the**[Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship](https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/scholarship/uq-indigenous-commonwealth-scholarships-uq-ics)**.**

You only need to complete [one form](https://studenthub.uq.edu.au/students/login?ReturnUrl=/form.aspx%3Fid%3D3925972) to be considered for all scholarships under the UQ-UCS and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarships scheme.

### UQ scholarships

Take some time to research and apply now. [UQ scholarships](https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/) may be awarded for academic achievement, leadership, community service, sporting excellence, equity and diversity, financial hardship or disadvantage, or specific areas of study.

## External scholarships

### Aurora Education

Aurora Education Foundation created the [Indigenous Scholarships Portal](https://aurorafoundation.com.au/our-work/indigenous-pathways-portal/) to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ access to financial support and resources.

### Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Tertiary Scholarships

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) offers [tertiary scholarships](https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/scholarships) to students who identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and are studying engineering or engineering related qualifications at a recognised tertiary institution.

## Financial support

You may be eligible for additional financial support during your studies.

### HELP loans

If you are a domestic student in a Commonwealth Supported Place, you may be eligible to receive [HECS-HELP](https://www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans).

### SA-HELP

The Student Services and Amenities Fee is a compulsory fee that is used to subsidise, support or fund [non-academic services for students.](https://www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans/sa-help)

### ABSTUDY

[ABSTUDY](https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/abstudy) can assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in approved courses to receive financial help with costs for study, housing and living expenses during their studies.
