Hong Kong lies on the coast of mainland China, and HKU’s campus is situated in the residential area of Pokfulam, on Hong Kong Island.

- You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 to study at HKU.
- Faculty of Business and Economics: You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.7 to study in the HKU's Faculty of Business and Economics.
- Faculty of Law: You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 6.0 to study at HKU's Faculty of Law.

You must choose one admission faculty from the University of Hong Kong and take the majority of courses within the chosen faculty. Further details are outlined in the Additional Academic Information section below.
Semester Restrictions\ Students are typically only able to participate in a single semester of exchange at HKU, due to the popularity of this university.

Crosscheck the courses you found in the host course catalogue with the Credit Precedent Database to see if UQ credit has previously been granted. The database should be used as a general guide only. Few courses from each host will be in the database and many course precedents in the database may have expired. Note, the credit precedent database does not replace the host course catalogue. If a course is not listed in the CPD, you can still ask for it to be assessed on your study plan.

Students are unable to enrol in a full-time study load in the following disciplines, however, enrolment in one or two courses may be possible:
- Business Analytics / Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Civil Engineering / Design
- Classical languages / Italian / Russian
Course Restrictions
- Law: Students admitted to the Faculty of Law can choose no more than 6 credits of non-law courses (1 course) in each semester.
- Faculty of Business and Economics: Courses are highly competitive. Students should have flexibility if choosing to study within this faculty. HKU is not recommended for business and economics students in their final year.

HKU also has the following requirements:
- Common Core courses will not count as part of the fulfillment of the 50% requirement of course enrolment for exchange students.
Chinese Language Courses:\ English taught Chinese language courses are available for exchange students, and results will be shown on the HKU official transcript. Chinese language courses offered from the Certificate in Chinese Language courses for foreign students are available at an additional cost.
Searching for Courses\ When finding course codes in the online application system, please make sure that the spacing in the course code is correctly entered. In general, there's NO spacing between course codes (e.g. GEOG2018). If you cannot find a certain course code in the system, it means that this course is currently unavailable/subject to change (without prior notice).

Accommodation
HKU provides a range of accommodation options, including halls of residence, non-hall student housing and university-rented off-campus accommodation. All halls reserve a number of places for exchange students, but spaces cannot be guaranteed.
Cost of living
HKU provides an estimate of basic living costs for students (refer to page 7-9 on the booklet) in Hong Kong. Some additional costs you can expect to encounter include the Student Union fees and Caution money.
Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
It is strongly recommended you take out medical insurance for the duration of your exchange, however, it is not mandatory. Coverage should include provisions for emergency evacuation, rescuer's expenses and repatriation.

Organise your visa
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.
HKU provides visa and immigration information for incoming exchange students.

Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
