## Host university requirements

**GPA**

- You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.65 to study at UCL.
- Some UCL departments have higher CUM GPA requirements. Please consult the individual '[Subject](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-at-ucl/subjects)' pages for specific criteria. A 3.5/4.0 US CUM GPA corresponds to a 5.9 for UQ students.
- **Biomedical Sciences** students will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 6.

**Study Options**\
You must choose one admission department from the list of departments below and take at least 50% of courses within the chosen department. Further details are outlined in the Additional Academic Information section below.

**Semester Restrictions**

- Students on exchange in UQ Semester 1 are required to attend both Term 2 (teaching term) and Term 3 (assessment term).
- Some departments have semester restrictions. See individual subject pages for [details](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-at-ucl/subjects).

**Other Restrictions**

- **Single degree students**: You must have completed 2 years (32 units) of university study, and a minimum of 12 units within your chosen field of study at UCL.
- **Dual degree students**: You must have completed 2.5 years (40 units) of university study, and a minimum of 18 units within your chosen field of study at UCL.
- **All students**: Each department/subject area at UCL have their own pre-requisites and you must meet these pre-requisites to be considered for UCL. Additionally, each course may have additional pre-requisites that you must meet.\
To find the department/subject area pre-requisites, visit [Study Abroad at UCL](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-at-ucl/subjects), select ‘subjects’, select the study area, and the pre-requisites will be outlined or linked.
- For UCL's ***Department of Economics***- the required modules indicated or their equivalents should be covered and successfully completed prior to arrival at UCL.; these are noted in *'Additional academic information'* below.

**Note**: Host university eligibility criteria are at the discretion of the host and may change without notice.

## Find courses

Search [UCL Subjects](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-at-ucl/subjects) (study areas for Exchange/Study Abroad (fee paying), [UCL Module catalogue](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/module-catalogue/?collection=drupal-module-catalogue&facetsort=alpha&num_ranks=20&daat=10000&query=MSIN0049%20&sort=relevance), and go over *'Additional academic information'*below. Course restrictions apply, please see "Course Restrictions" below for more information.

Crosscheck the courses you found in the host course catalogue with the [Credit Precedent Database](http://creditprecedents.app.uq.edu.au/) to see if UQ credit has previously been granted. The database should be used as a general guide only. Few courses from each host will be in the database and many course precedents in the database may have expired. Note, the credit precedent database does not replace the host course catalogue. If a course is not listed in the CPD, you can still ask for it to be assessed on your study plan.

**Elective outside admitted department:**\
You may in theory choose up to 50% as electives from other departments (outside your admitted department), including departments not listed above, subject to availability, modules working within your personal timetable, course tutor approval and meeting any prerequisites. Be aware that:

- students who are admitted through a department will be given priority for course registrations over those admitted through other departments.
- there may be additional requirements for different departments.
- Computer Science modules are not available to UQ students even as electives.
- Some Psychology modules may be available as electives to applicants once they have enrolled at UCL, but this will be subject to availability as the Psychology department has to prioritize students admitted directly into their department. Therefore, there is no guarantee that you will be able to enrol in Psychology modules.

**Department of Economics:**

Students who have completed or will complete the following courses prior to their exchange at UCL in Economics will be eligible to apply.  Approved course equivalencies:

Intermediate Calculus (UCL [ECON0010](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/economics/sites/economics/files/econ0010_mathematics_for_economics_to_publish.pdf))\
•    MATH1051/MATH1071 + MATH1052/MATH1072\
•    MATH1051/MATH1071\
•    ECON1050\
•    ECON2050\
Intermediate Microeconomics (UCL [ECON0013](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/economics/sites/economics/files/econ0013_1.pdf))\
•    ECON2010\
•    ECON2030 (has prerequisite ECON2010)\
Intermediate Macroeconomics (UCL [ECON0016](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/economics/sites/economics/files/econ0016.pdf))\
•    ECON2020\
•    ECON2040\
Introductory Statistics (UCL [ECON0005](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/module-catalogue/modules/statistical-methods-in-economics-ECON0005)) or Introductory Econometrics (UCL [ECON0004](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/module-catalogue/modules/applied-economics-ECON0004)), as offered ECON1310 or ECON2300

Students completed the above mentioned prerequisites will have access to all Second and Final Year modules listed [here](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/economics/study/undergraduate/module-list). However, students who have not completed the intermediate level Macro/Microeconomics, you will be potentially considered but would be restricted to [this](https://https://www.ucl.ac.uk/social-historical-sciences/affiliate-module-list) list of First and Second Year modules.

**Department of Biological Sciences:**

- *Biomedical Science* students are recommended to choose 'Biological Sciences' as an admittance department depending on courses that will match for credit.
- Students who have completed Physics or Chemistry courses at UQ will be considered stronger applicants for Biomedical Sciences courses at UCL. However, Biomedical Science courses are not within an admitting department and are considered electives, which means these courses are not guaranteed.
- Please avoid trying to gain Compulsory Credit (specific credit) in Biomedical Science on Exchange as you must have 80% course matching and faculty will most likely not award credit (i.e. BIOM3402).
- Students with a provisional in Medicine considering to go on Exchange should  plan very carefully and avoid Compulsory Credits on Exchange due to a risk of delaying graduation and loose provisional placement.

**UCL Application**

- UCL pays particular attention to personal statements, taking note of any relevant experience or interest’s applications have declared.

Single-semester exchange students will normally be allocated housing, but this cannot be guaranteed.

## Cost of living

Budgeting for living and day-to-day expenses while on exchange will vary according to your personal needs and wants. The university also provides a breakdown of estimated [living expenses and additional costs](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/scholarships/how-much-does-it-cost-study-ucl) to help you prepare for exchange.

The Which? [Student Budget Calculator](https://university.which.co.uk/student-budget-calculator "Student Budget Calculator website external link") is also a useful tool to help you create a budget and manage your finances while studying in the UK.

## Financial support

[A range of funding](https://employability.uq.edu.au/financial-support) for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.

UCL provides [visa and immigration information](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-at-ucl/how-apply/visa-information) for incoming exchange students.

Contact the [British High Commission](https://www.gov.uk/world/australia#/world/coming-to-the-uk-australia) for more visa information.

## Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with [a risk level of 3](http://smartraveller.gov.au/resources/pages/travel-advice-explained.aspx) (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.

Find out the risk level and travel advice, and sign up to receive updates for your host country on the [Smartraveller website](http://smartraveller.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx).
