UQ deepens research with University of Alberta

5 March 2026

The University of Queensland hosted senior leaders from the University of Alberta this week, to strengthen bilateral research ties and advance collaboration across key sectors for both Australia and Canada.

During the visit, UQ and the University of Alberta signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation across research, innovation and mobility.

Leaders from both universities also explored opportunities for joint initiatives in research infrastructure, co-funded programs, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as student and researcher exchange.

UQ Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deborah Terry AC said the partnership strengthens Australia’s ability to address complex global challenges by driving research breakthroughs, cultivating advanced skills and accelerating innovations that support better jobs, stronger industries and a high quality of life for Australians.

University of Alberta Vice-President (International & Enterprise) David Bressler said the two institutions would align strengths in areas ranging from advanced technologies to innovation ecosystems.
