Getting Started workshops

'Getting Started' will help you make a smooth transition to campus life and includes essential information you need to get settled in and off to a good start. Gain practical information about: important dates, finding your way around campus, connecting to other UQ students, and support services available.

Safety in Australia

This workshop has tips on keeping safe while living in Australia - on, and off, campus. In this session you will find out about: Personal safety on campus Keeping safe at home, on the roads, and when you are out, Surviving Australian beaches, Animals to be aware of, Protecting yourself from scams, And more!\

Skills for Study Suite: Increase your learning potential

The Skills for Study Suite of programs is offered at the beginning of each semester. Each program is designed to develop the skills beneficial for academic study, and to help build confidence for the semester ahead. Click on the links below to explore what is available and to register to attend.

Jumpstart

JumpStart is a one-day transition program designed to help commencing students feel prepared and connected before the semester begins. The program focuses on building confidence in navigating university systems, understanding academic expectations, and fostering a sense of belonging within the UQ community.

Skills for Study: Postgraduate Coursework

SFS: PG Coursework is a short program for students returning to academic study. The aim of the program is to introduce the expectations of post-graduate study and the skills that will contribute to academic success, including referencing, critical thinking, and writing techniques.

Skills for study: Writing (HASS, BEL & HMBS)

This a series of online workshops available to undergraduate and postgraduate students in HASS, BEL and HMBS faculties. This hands-on writing program builds on critical thinking, reading, and writing strategies introduced in O-Week workshops and in Skills for study: Postgraduate Coursework. It is also recommended for students in their second or later semesters.

Skills for study: STEMM (Sci, EAIT, Eng, Med)

The Skills for study: STEMM is a series of online workshops available to all postgraduate and undergraduate coursework students in Science, EAIT, HABS and MED. This program is suitable for both new and continuing students.

ADHD Coaching

Join these weekly sessions to connect with other students who identify as living with ADHD and share ideas and experiences. The aim of these sessions is to develop the skills to manage academic studies and student life.

First Steps in Research: Honours/Masters Thesis Writing Support Program

This program consists of four workshops delivered across the semester for students writing their Honours or Masters Thesis. You will gain a good understanding of the various steps involved in producing a research thesis of some length.
