Yonsei is regarded as South Korea’s top private university. Since its founding in 1885, the University has been synonymous with international education in Asia. Today, over 20 per cent of Yonsei’s students are international students.
The Sinchon area around the Yonsei campus is home to one of the most vibrant and exciting college districts in Seoul. Sinchon has a unique culture of its own and attracts youth from around the city and around the country.

Full-time study load
15 credits per semester at Yonsei University is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Korean Language: For students who take a Korean language course, 12 credits per semester at Yonsei University is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Host university requirements
GPA\ You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 to study at Yonsei.
Language\ Students wishing to take courses taught in Korean will require a KLAT (Korean Language Ability Test) level 4 or a Korean language assessment report.
Study Options\ Not applicable to this university. You can choose courses from any of the faculties at Yonsei which are open to exchange students, however, there are numerous course restrictions outlined below. You must indicate whether you intend to study a Korean Language course as this determines your full-time study load.
Semester Restrictions\ Yonsei University is only available for a single semester exchange.

Study Load Restrictions\ Students are unable to enrol in a full-time study load in the following disciplines, however, enrolment in one or two courses may be possible:
- International Business (UG).
- Information Technology.
- Exercise Science (PG) / Nutrition Science (PG) / Psychology.
- Communication, digital media, public relations (UG) / English (PG) / Philosophy (PG) / Political Science (PG) / Religion / Sociology (PG).
- Korean (PG).
- Chemistry and Biochemistry (UG) / Earth Sciences (PG) / Environmental Studies (PG) / Food Science (PG), Physics (UG), Regional and Town Planning (PG).
Course Restrictions\ Yonsei has numerous course restrictions applicable to exchange students.
- Business / Economics courses are strictly open to business/economics major students due to high demand, and exchange students can take a maximum of four courses under the School of Business and College of Business & Economics.
- Students should avoid taking courses from the Yonsei Underwood International College (UIC), as enrolment priority is given to a student who is coming through UIC specific exchange agreement.
Disciplines/Faculties Restrictions\ The following programs are not available to exchange students:

Additional academic information
Yonsei Korean Language courses
- Intensive Korean Language courses (KLI1001 - KLI1006) offered by the Korean Language Institute (KLI) are available at 6 levels and are normally held in the afternoon from 4 pm to 6 pm every weekday.
- Search course profiles by clicking on Yonsei Course Catalogue and Syllabus -> Undergraduate Programs -> Study Abroad Course -> Korean Language.
- Students are only allowed to enrol in ONE 6-credit KLI course each semester.
- KLI Level description
Course Numbering
- The first three letters of a course code indicate which department the course is offered in. For example, a course code starting with ECO means the course is offered by The Department of Economics.
- Undergraduate course numbers range from 1000 (lower division) to 4000 (upper division). For example, ECO1234 would be a lower division course and ECO4567 would be an upper-division course.
- Graduate courses are 5000-level courses and above.
- Courses are usually worth 3 credits each

Accommodation
The 2 international student dormitories (Gukje Haksa) at Yonsei house students from all over the world in a multicultural atmosphere. In addition to these on-campus options, students can choose to find private accommodation off-campus. Yonsei's Office of International Affairs provides students with information on both on- and off-campus housing options.
Cost of living
Guides are available to help you understand the cost of living while studying at Yonsei and prepare a budget for your exchange.
Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Students may be able to receive scholarship funding through the Korean government. Study in Korea has information on eligibility and application processes.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
Students at Yonsei must have a valid health insurance plan. If one is already in place your home institution, this will be sufficient, however, proof (an official letter) must be provided.

Organise your visa

Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
