# Strategic partnership formalised with First Nations University of Canada

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed by The University of Queensland (UQ) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry AO and First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) President, Dr Jacqueline Ottmann.

This gathering signified the uniting of Indigenous leaders from UQ and FNUniv to formalise preliminary agreements and begin negotiations, including student and staff exchanges, curriculum and research projects, and other collaborative ventures.

The signing took place at UQ St Lucia in Brisbane, with Professor Terry and Dr Ottmann joined by UQ Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) Professor Bronwyn Fredericks, UQ Professor of Indigenous Education Tracey Bunda, and other members of the UQ Senior Executive Team (USET).

This MoU signing between UQ and FNUniv comes after Professor Fredericks and Dr Ottmann established a working relationship in 2022 - the year in which Dr Ottman visited UQ.

In 2023, Professor Fredericks and Professor Bunda attended the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA) conference in Canada. They met with Dr Ottman to discuss joint initiatives, which led to this year’s meeting with USET and the signing of the MoU.
