Full-time study load
60 credits at Surrey is equivalent to 8 UQ units.\ You are not permitted to study fewer than 60 credits at Surrey.
Host university requirements
GPA\ You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.6 to study at Surrey.

Semester Restrictions\ Postgraduate exchange at Surrey is available for single-semester exchange only.

Crosscheck the courses you found in the host course catalogue with the Credit Precedent Database to see if UQ credit has previously been granted. The database should be used as a general guide only. Few courses from each host will be in the database and many course precedents in the database may have expired. Note, the credit precedent database does not replace the host course catalogue. Academic restrictions
Study Load Restrictions\ Students are unable to enrol in a full-time study load in the following disciplines, however, enrolment in one or two courses may be possible:
- Business Analytics / Human Resources (UG) / Innovation and entrepreneurship / International Business (PG)
- Environmental Engineering (UG) / Structural Engineering (UG) / Marine and Water Engineering
- Film, TV and media
Course Restrictions\ Students must be enrolled in a Master of Tourism, Hotel and Event Management to undertake postgraduate level Tourism or Hospitality courses at Surrey.\
Undergraduate Students are not permitted to take postgraduate level courses.
Postgraduate Students may take undergraduate courses with approval.
Business School Masters level modules may only be offered in the Surrey Summer semester i.e. June – September meaning UQ students will not be able to select these courses on exchange.\ Example:
- MANM378 Ethics In Finance is not available for exchange during Spring or Autumn semester
- MANM381 E-Business Strategy is not available for exchange during Spring or Autumn semester
Disciplines/Faculties Restrictions\ The following are not open to exchange students at Surrey:
- Chemistry
- Guildford School of Acting
- Nursing and midwifery
- Veterinary medicine
- some School of Arts courses such as Digital Media, Creative Music Technology and Sound Recording.
Additional academic information
Study Options Details\ You must choose one admission programme from the available list and take 50% of courses within the chosen programme and same year level.

It is recommended to choose from one programme and year/level if possible to avoid timetabling issues.
Course Numbering\ The first 3 letters of the code denote the subject area, followed by 1, 2, 3 or M indicating the level of study.
- 1, 2, and 3 denote 1st, 2nd and 3rd-year undergraduate modules respectively (eg. PHY2064 is a 2nd-year Physics module)
- M denotes a postgraduate level module (eg. POLM015 is a Masters-level Politics module).

Accommodation
Exchange students are eligible to apply for University of Surrey accommodation, but it is not guaranteed. Visit Surrey's accommodation webpage to explore the university housing options or use the University of Surrey Lettings service to search for private accommodation.
Cost of living
The University of Surrey provides a guide of average living costs that students can expect to encounter while on exchange.

Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Students studying at the University of Surrey can apply for a scholarship through BUTEX. BUTEX offers a number of £500 scholarships to students studying on exchange at member institutions.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Organise your visa
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.
Surrey provides visa and immigration information for incoming exchange students.
Contact the British High Commission for more visa information.
Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
