Accommodation
Vallendar is a relatively rural community and not all landlords speak English. For this reason, WHU offers international students extra support in finding accommodation during their exchange program.
At the moment WHU does not offer exchange students university-sponsored housing in Düsseldorf. After the application deadline, students will be provided additional information and resources which they can use to find housing. It is each student's responsibility to secure accommodation, however, WHU is happy to help and give them advice during their search process.
Cost of living
With respect to the cost of living, Germany lies within the EU average and is therefore not excessively expensive. WHU has provided an example of an average monthly budget to help students plan for their exchange.
Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
WHU currently does not offer any scholarships for incoming students from overseas partner universities. Students may consult the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to find further information on scholarship possibilities.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.
For more information, read the Student Travel Insurance Policy Summary on UQ’s Travel Insurance web page (login required).
If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
Upon their arrival at WHU, all exchange students have to provide proof of health insurance. Please note that health insurance with full coverage for sickness, emergencies and all medical expenses is absolutely mandatory for all exchange students in Germany.
