The Office of 2032 Games Engagement is the central office for UQ’s Olympic and Paralympic Engagement.

The 2032 Games presents an extraordinary, once-in-a-generation range of opportunities for Queensland.

Many of these opportunities will intersect with UQ’s core business in research, innovation, teaching and learning, student experience, partnership building, community engagement, alumni and advancement, and highlighting enduring contributions of First Peoples.

To facilitate UQ’s role as a key partner and knowledge leader to the 2032 Games and its legacy, we've [created the Office of 2032 Games Engagement (OGE)](https://stories.uq.edu.au/contact-magazine/breaking-barriers-and-building-legacies/index.html) to provide a dedicated engagement and coordination point across the University.

## Our mission

Maximise the long-term benefits of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics for the communities of UQ, Queensland, Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.

## Our aspirations

By 2032, UQ will:

Be regarded as a knowledge and innovation leader in fields of direct relevance to the Olympics and Paralympics.

### Leverage networks

Leverage our research networks to develop services and capabilities to deliver a sustainable and digitally enabled event.

### Harness the power of sport

Have used sport effectively as a vehicle for supporting [The Queensland Commitment](https://partners-community.uq.edu.au/queensland-commitment) and delivering public good.

### Extend our reach

Extend our global reach in education and research, with a commitment to sports diplomacy-focused capacity building in Indo-Pacific.

### Develop infrastructure

Develop the infrastructure to attract and host sports events and training for people of all abilities before and after the Games.

### Provide sports-focused opportunities

Deliver a suite of sports-focused educational opportunities to students, graduates and life-time learners.

## The OGE team

Led by Executive Director, Professor Bruce Abernethy AM, the Office of 2032 Games Engagement (OGE) is the central contact and coordination office for UQ’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Engagement.

The OGE works closely with the [Centre for Olympic and Paralympic Studies](https://hmns.uq.edu.au/qcops) and [UQ Research Partnerships](https://research.uq.edu.au/partner/industry/games2032) in the development and delivery of initiatives aligned with UQ’s [The Queensland Commitment](https://partners-community.uq.edu.au/queensland-commitment) and the Queensland Government’s 2032 Legacy Strategy, [Elevate 2042](https://q2032.au/plans/games-legacy).

### Olympic and Paralympic Oversight Committee

UQ's support of, and participation in, the 2032 Games is further guided by an Olympic and Paralympic Oversight Committee (OPOC) chaired by the [Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry AC](https://www.uq.edu.au/about/vice-chancellor).

Comprising internal and external representatives to UQ, the OPOC maintains oversight of the strategic direction of the University in participating in opportunities created by the ‘green and gold runway’.

The OPOC is also charged with ensuring UQ’s participation in the opportunities created by the 2032 Games remains grounded in safeguarding a positive and ongoing legacy for UQ, our communities and partners.
