The University of Bristol is an internationally renowned Top 10 UK university. With seaside, scenery and culture, Bristol was recently ranked as the best place to live in Britain.
The University is ideally located for exploring many of the city’s cultural attractions, shops and green spaces. Bristol is a mere 90 minute journey from London, an hour from several famous beach breaks and close to heritage sights such as Stonehenge and Stratford-upon Avon (the birthplace of Shakespeare).

Academic restrictions
Study Load Restrictions\ Students are unable to enrol in a full-time study load in the following disciplines, however, enrolment in one or two courses may be possible:
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship / Economics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Psychology
- French / German / Italian / Spanish
- Computer Science
Course Restrictions
- Computer Science units are only available at the 3rd and 4th-year levels and therefore are only suitable for students who have already completed 2 or 3 years of a Computer Science degree. Please be aware that courses within Computer Science at Bristol are very competitive so having backup course options is essential.
- Psychology: Students wishing to take Psychology at Bristol need to have a strong background in Chemistry, Biology and Neuroscience as this study area is taught as an experimental science rather than a social science at Bristol
- Civil Engineering: There are few available units in Civil Engineering for single-semester students so applying for the full academic year is advised. Single-semester students would need to be flexible in the units they can take.
- Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering: There are few 1st and 2nd-year units available for exchange students, students are therefore required to have some flexibility in these subject areas.

Accommodation
Bristol has on-campus residences available for exchange students studying at the university or offers the option for off-campus private accommodation. Exchange students are guaranteed accommodation on-campus if they are studying at Bristol for a full year or for the autumn semester, but most students are allocated a room in University housing.
Cost of living
The cost of living in Bristol can vary greatly depending on your habits and lifestyle. The University has provided a detailed guide to the average living expenses while studying and living in Bristol.

Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Students studying at Bristol can apply for a scholarship through BUTEX. BUTEX offers a number of £500 scholarships to students studying on exchange at member institutions
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
If you are studying in the UK for longer than 6 months you will be covered by the National Health Service (NHS), a publicly-funded system providing healthcare for UK residents. If you are studying at Bristol for less than 6 months you will need to organise private health insurance for the duration of your exchange.

Organise your visa
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
