The University of Tübingen (German: Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen) is one of Europe’s oldest universities, dating back to 1477. The latest chapter of the University’s history is marked by its success in the German government’s Excellence Initiative, and in its position within the top 100 universities worldwide.

The city of Tübingen today remains a place of research and teaching. The city combines the authenticity of a medieval town centre with the bustle and atmosphere of a young university town – about 1 in 3 Tübingen residents is a student.

Accommodation

As the private housing market is expensive and highly competitive in Tübingen, the University of Tübingen recommends that exchange students live in the student dormitories.

As the University does not own the dormitories, they cannot guarantee rooms for exchange students. However, if your application is received in time, it is highly likely that you will obtain a room.

Cost of living

The cost of living in university towns is usually a bit more expensive than in non-university towns. The university provides an estimate of minimum student expenses in Tübingen. Students must also pay an EUR 88.30 services fee per semester.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.

Students studying at the University of Tübingen may be eligible for the Baden-Württemberg ScholarshipDAAD Scholarships or any other financial aid they may be eligible for.

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

For more information, read the Student Travel Insurance Policy Summary on UQ’s Travel Insurance web page (login required).

Organise your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

The University of Tübingen provides visa information for incoming exchange students in their application and preparation page.

Contact the German Federal Foreign Office for more visa information.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
