With more than 640 buildings and facilities across 24 locations, our infrastructure is a foundation for world-class teaching, research and engaging with our community.

We strive to create vibrant, sustainable campuses that foster innovation and collaboration, while preserving the heritage and legacy of our estate.

## Our investment strategy

UQ has a rolling 5-year capital investment plan to guide prudent investment in infrastructure aligned with UQ's [Strategic Plan 2026–2029](https://about.uq.edu.au/strategy-values/strategic-plan).

The plan sets out a roadmap for new and renewed buildings and facilities, along with strategic property moves to optimise the use of space. It also addresses significant maintenance needs through a staged approach for long-term sustainability.

Investment is directed toward UQ’s strategic pillars:

- **Local, national and global impact**: A flourishing and connected UQ community through opportunities for cultural and extra-curricular activities, community engagement and broadened access to education.
- **Teaching and learning**: A vibrant on-campus experience where student-focused spaces reflect sector-leading practice, support active and collaborative learning and encourage social interaction.
- **Research and innovation**: Enabling innovation and impact through adapted and enhanced research facilities that meet the evolving needs of UQ and the broader Queensland community.
- **Our people and sustainable operations**: Enhanced spaces, systems and infrastructure to ensure our footprint is sustainable and enables our communities to thrive.

## Planning and approvals

Every project is carefully planned and reviewed to ensure it meets the needs of our community. To identify priority projects, we consider:

- alignment with strategic priorities
- consultation with UQ leaders and stakeholders
- requests for new projects and maintenance
- proactive building condition assessments
- space planning and property moves to enhance efficiencies and collaboration
- long-term benefits and value for our community.

All capital works projects are subject to a gated capital expenditure process. This requires project requests to be submitted at each stage that outline the business case, benefits and costs for approval by the Project Review Board and Infrastructure Funding Group.

The Property and Facilities team then develops detailed plans and works with partners to bring projects to life.

As projects progress to implementation, details are published on this page.
