About the Outreach Program

Our goal is to support students on their path towards success, including personal career goals, tertiary education access, and high school attainment. The activities in our program support student aspirations by providing opportunities for students to build capabilities and develop confidence to help them succeed in secondary school and beyond.

We work in close partnership with selected schools, to nurture and develop students' education ambitions throughout their secondary journey. Selected schools are in the Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and South-Western area of Queensland. These schools have been selected in partnership with the Queensland Government Widening Participation Consortium. The Consortium is a collaboration between Queensland Universities that aims to improve the participation and success of underrepresented groups in tertiary education.

In support of The Queensland Commitment we recognise we can’t do this alone and have formed partnerships with community, education and NGO’s to co-design tailored educational programs that work, if you are interested in partnering with us please get in contact.

What is the Outreach Program?

Hear from five of our Ambassadors about what the Outreach Program is.

Listen to them speak on the impact that they have made on students throughout Queensland, the support they've felt from staff and fellow ambassadors along with the growth they've experienced working in this team.

Year 7 & 8

Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a daunting experience. Our activities in Years 7 & 8 aim to provide students with the tools and interpersonal skills to assist them in overcoming barriers, build their confidence and to demystify tertiary education. \ \

Year 9 & 10

As students begin to explore their career pathways and select subjects for the latter years of high school, our activities aim to support them throughout this journey by exploring and unlocking their values, skills, and strengths, also offering an on-campus university experience.

Year 11 & 12

Just like the earlier years of high school, the later years can just be as scary and stressful. Our activities in Year 11 and 12 aim to assist students in their senior years by exploring stress and time management strategies, whilst also preparing students for their post school pathway decisions.

Partnered Schools Experiences

“The School Skills workshop gave students an opportunity to share their emotions in a familiar environment. The workshop was set up in a nice casual way where students respected the presenters and felt comfortable sharing their experience - an excellent effort in a 70-minute session. Great workshop; well-presented and well received. Student self-reflection was the biggest factor, together with the practical strategies to help combat common issues.”

Teacher

“The workshop, students had the opportunity to reflect on what makes them stressed, how that shows up in their bodies and what they can do to better manage their stress.”

Teacher

“I have gained an understanding of what university is like and am more keen to go to university. I have also learnt t*hat I don’t have to have a high ATAR to study what I want and that there’s different pathways to get there.”*
