Get involved volunteering at UQ
Welcome to Get Involved volunteering, our central hub that connects students with exciting volunteering opportunities, including mentoring and student representation across UQ. Our goal is to help students easily discover, apply for, and manage volunteering opportunities they’re interested in, while providing staff with seamless support and processes for recruitment and volunteer engagement.
Why recruit student volunteers through us?
By partnering with us, you’ll be able to connect with a diverse group of 3,000+ enthusiastic students who are eager to make a difference. We’re here to help you advertise, recruit, roster, and manage students effectively for your opportunities, including events, promotion, welcoming, wayfinding, feedback or facilitation.
How we support you:
- Access to a large student community:Reach 3,000+ engaged and motivated students each year who are actively seeking to get involved in campus life opportunities.
- Ongoing support:We’ll help you manage the application process, ensuring it’s smooth, efficient, and tailored to your opportunity needs.
- Simplified and streamlined onboarding: Students need to complete mandatory volunteering training before applying to opportunities, so you can ensure your student volunteers know what to expect from their volunteering and are ready to contribute.
- Targeted recruitment: We work with you to ensure you attract the right students for your specific opportunities, whether you need students with a particular skill set, or from a specific faculty or year level of study, we work with a range of student volunteers to ensure the best fit for your opportunities.
Requirements:
All staff requesting UQ student volunteers will be responsible for ensuring effective WHS controls whilst volunteers are on shift.
This may include:
- Completing the Hazardous Manual Tasks Risk Management for UQ Events training module via Workday
- Completing a Health and Safety Risk Assessment Procedure
- Providing evacuation briefings to volunteers at the start of shifts
- Reporting incidents in relation to any volunteers on shift according to UQ policy
For students:
There are so many benefits of students participating in volunteering including the opportunity for them to meet other students and make new friends, develop their employability skills and help others by giving back to the community.
UQ Get Involved volunteering makes this simple and beneficial for students by providing:
- Standardised and specialised training: Students benefit from a consistent induction process, preparing them for any on-campus role.
- Continued development: Access to additional training, community events, and networking opportunities. Students also gain access to a wide range of external volunteering opportunities they can apply for within the broader community.
- Enhance employability: Students involved in these opportunities can gain recognition through the Employability Award, if they choose to participate. Our UQ Employability Award requires students to complete 75 hours of volunteering, through the duration of their participation in this separate program.
- Weekly newsletter: All active student volunteers receive a weekly newsletter, which notifies them of all opportunities they can apply for. From here, students can sign-up to opportunities to best suit their interests and schedules.
- Reward and recognition: Students receive a range of benefits from being a Get Involved volunteer, including certificates, professional development and appreciation events.
