Accommodation

Accommodation during your exchange will be dependant on the program you are studying and the university where it is hosted. Your host university will have detailed housing guides to help you find suitable accommodation for your stay.

Generally, students live in a student boarding house or in homestays. Exchange students can opt to find private rental accommodation, however, rental properties can be difficult to find and are more expensive than other options.

Cost of living

The cost of living in Indonesia is generally inexpensive compared to Australian costs. There is a guide to average expenses in Indonesia to help students prepare their budget. Students do however need to consider additional fees associated with studying abroad.

Tuition

Semester-based study with ACICIS is only available as study abroad mode. This means you pay your tuition to ACICIS directly and do not pay tuition to UQ.

If you have questions about how this may impact costs, please contact IGET.

Additional Mandatory Fees

ACICIS has a mandatory administration fee. This fee is mandatory for all exchange students and cannot be waived.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.

Various methods of financial help are available through ACICIS. Explore the current assistance programs to check your eligibility.

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

For more information, read the Student Travel Insurance Policy Summary on UQ’s Travel Insurance web page (login required).

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Health and Travel Insurance cover is obligatory on all ACICIS programs. All participant policies must include cover for medical evacuation and repatriation.

Organise your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

ACICIS provides visa and immigration information for incoming exchange students.

Contact the ACICIS Secretariat in Perth for more visa information.

Applicants must have a passport valid for at least 22 months from the ACICIS application deadline.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.

Find out the risk level and travel advice, and sign up to receive updates for your host country on the Smartraveller website.
